A Dedication

The name “Shepherding the Heart Counseling” is an heartfelt homage and dedication to Champ and Annabelle, the two German Shepherds who saved my life in different ways, decades apart from one another.

German Shepherds embody the name: Shepherd.

They exude confidence, loyalty, and intelligence, making them an ideal family member and working partner. They are curious but not fearful, and they approach new experiences with a calm and composed demeanor. This confidence makes them excellent candidates for various roles, including service dogs, therapy dogs, and search-and-rescue dogs.

When a German Shepherd is well loved, they form a deep bond with their human family. They are protective, affectionate, and devoted. Their loyalty knows no bounds, and they will go to great lengths to ensure the safety and well-being of their loved ones.

Despite their serious demeanor, a well socialized German Shepherd also knows how to have fun. When they stop taking their role so seriously, they can be big, goofy, floofie, furballs. They enjoy playtime, engaging in games like fetch, tug-of-war, or running around (often in zoomies and circles) in the backyard. Their playful nature adds a layer of joy and liveliness to your daily interactions.

A well-trained GSD understands boundaries and respects rules. They exhibit self-control and discipline, making them reliable and trustworthy companions. Whether it's walking politely on a leash, waiting patiently for commands, or responding to cues promptly, a disciplined GSD makes everyday interactions smooth and enjoyable.

Champ and Annabelle exemplified the very best of this breed. They were loving, gentle, protective, intelligent, stable, calm, patient, and lots of fun. With deep gratitude to them for their many years of loving and loyal service, I am delighted to dedicate STHC to their memory.
